I wish I had more time this year to attend more of the Manifesto festivities.
This studio is really just absorbing all my time.
Anyhow, this past Saturday, Brock and I headed out to the AGO to check out the art show. There wasnt a huge collection of art in the spot, but I understand the importance of being selective and showing only the great pieces and not just filling a place with good pieces.
I swear, that if I knew how to paint or could still draw, all my work would look very similar to the work that was up. The art was amazing and beautiful but it had a nice urban touch to it. You can tell it was created by young city dwellers, who have been influenced by pop culture, hip hop and multiculturalism. I loved the art that was up, especially because I felt like I was able to relate to the minds of the artists in some way.
The center piece of the whole exhibit was of course the 1 LOVE TO Mascot Totem made of cardboard. Brock showed me this idea months ago and I remember trying to visualize it, and to be honest, I couldnt. But damn, when I seen that thing when we got there, I was so impressed. It looked amazing. Especially with the Elmer’s glue varnish. lol.
Of course shout outs to my brother Bryan Espiritu as well on his Tupac piece. Pac is Jesus.
Shout outs to Che and the rest of the Manifesto gang. It makes me so happy to see the progression every year, and it makes me feel extremely honored that Che – one of my mentors is one of the leading figures for the movement. Shout outs to Criso, Ashley Mackenzie, Krystle, Norm, Shaundelle, Addy, T-RexXx, Kende, Wolf and everyone else I seen that I cant remember right now.
If you missed the festival this year, make sure to check out next year.
