Meet my homeboy, David Versis.

Ive been working with him and his crew for a few months now and Im finally releasing some photos. He’ll probably be an unknown name to most of you, but thats all good. Consider yourselves as one of the first to find out.

A lot of artists and musicians ask me to work with them all the time. Shoot their mixtape cover, their epk, their whatever, and quite often I decline because I dont want to be stuck doing work that feels like work or something I wont be proud of. It has nothing to do with me thinking Im too good to work with some people, but Id prefer to spend the time working on projects that keep me happy and excited you know? When I choose work, I try to find some sort of personal connection to it. I feel that I do better work when I believe in what Im shooting.

When David first msged me asking to work with me, the first things I asked him was if he could send over some work for me to listen to. Let me tell you, it was extremely refreshing to hear such good music come from the city again. The dude has a nice flow and can definitely rhyme. It got me all excited and motivated me to get back to work. No fuel like the one that makes you have pride in your city.

Last month, David had a small little intimate show at Wrongbar on Queen Street. Him and the crew asked me to come by to check it out and give feedback and what not. So my brother, Bryan Espiritu and I showed up to have some drinks and just take in the scenery. I havent been to be a hip hop show in a long time and didnt know what to expect.

I remember pulling up to Wrongbar and Bryan and I were like…”wtf is going here?” The outside was rammed with people. Bry and I got inside and chilled in the crowd a lil bit to get a feel for the response and reactions and it was absolutely insane to see almost everyone sing almost every lyric to his every song. He’s got some loyal followers who are that invested in his music to have memorized the words. I was actually super impressed and felt extremely proud of him.

I have a lot of love and appreciation for this dude and I have nothing but great expectations from him.

So if you ever get a chance to bump into him in the streets, make sure to show him some love.

PS. I cant post any music from just as yet, but do follow him on twitter at @davidversis in the meantime. Ill be sure to post some tracks shortly. :)
